Manufacturing Microwaves & Ovens

The professionals of our industry predict the global microwave and oven market to be worth over $25.4 billion in 2021. This is an industry in growth, with much of the growth being accounted for by rising innovations in grill ovens, convection ovens and solo microwave ovens.

With the help of sealants and adhesives for microwaves and ovens , these advancings are allowing manufacturers to increase output rate, produce higher quality products and reduce production costs.

The usual manufacturing process of a oven or microwave can be broken down as follows:

Oven Door & Cavity

The process usually starts with the manufacturing of the oven cavity and door. The frame is formed from sheets of metal, using metal-forming processes. Also, the door is formed and painted, and a metal plate is connected to its window aperture. This is to reflect heat and microwaves while allowing light to pass through. Sealants and adhesives are used in this stage to bond the window to the door frame.

Main Chassis

The cavity is attached to the main chassis, and the door is connected to the cavity using hinges. The magnetron tube, responsible for creating microwaves, is also attached to the side of the cavity. All electronic circuitries responsible for producing and handling the voltages throughout the oven are attached alongside the magnetron tube.

Fan, switches and front panel

A fan, along whith a stirrer shield to protect it, are connected to the top of the cavity in order to circulate the microwaves. All safety and control switches are installed near the door. Ultimately, a front panel is installed allowing full operation of the oven by the user.

Sealants and Adhesives for Microwaves and Ovens

The main adhesive applications within microwaves and ovens are for bonding the outer and inner window to the frame. Adhesives offer many exceptional advantages over mechanical fastening methods. DOWSIL silicone sealants and adhesives provide ideal solutions for manufacturing microwaves and ovens due to being:

  • Great adhesives for bonding glass
  • Great adhesives for bonding painted metal
  • Heat resistant up to 250°C
  • Flame-retardant and of low flammability
  • Environmentally friendly and sustainable

Below we explore our recommended range of adhesives for ovens and microwaves:

DOWSIL™ 3-6096

DOWSIL™ 3-6096 is a one-component adhesive that can be used to bond microwave and oven doors and cooking hobs. It is flexible, strong and stable from -40°C to +250°C, provides a fast cure, and cures to a tough, flexible rubber. This adhesive provides excellent bonds to substrates with dissimilar thermal expansion.

DOWSIL 732

DOWSIL 732 is a multi-purpose sealant that can be used for sealing microwave doors. It is available in black, white, clear and aluminium; allowing use in different varieties of microwaves and owens. It is flexible and stable from -60°C to +205°C, easy to apply and cures to a tough, flexible rubber.

DOWSIL 736

DOWSIL 736 is a heat-resistant sealant that can withstand temperatures as high as 315°C; making it useful for sealing oven doors. It may be applied overhead or on sidewalls, and it will not sag.

DOWSIL EA-2626

DOWSIL EA-2626 is a two-component adhesive & sealant, made up of a DOWSIL™ EA-2626 base and SILASTIC™ Q3-3636 catalyst, that can be used in applications up to 190°C. It offers a fast cure in-depth, as opposed to outside inward like most moisture-cure adhesives. This article has been specially developed to provide adhesive sealing for components that exhibit different thermal expansion rates.
