Pumps, valves, compressors, and other components must operate with products that stay stable under high pressure and temperature in the presence of pure oxygen. When people look for ptfe-approved greases for these kinds of applications, what they are really looking for is proof that the lubricant has been tested and approved by trusted third parties for this demanding service.

That is exactly what the recent BAM approval of MOLYKOTE® HP-300 Grease and MOLYKOTE® G-8101 Grease delivers: verified performance for oxygen-rich environments combined with PFPE chemistry and PTFE thickening for long-term, low-volatility lubrication.

BAM approval: what it confirms for oxygen service

The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) tested both MOLYKOTE® HP-300 Grease and MOLYKOTE® G-8101 Grease in oxygen-rich conditions. Each grease went through two independent test series, and each series consisted of five consecutive impacts, designed to evaluate stability and safety under oxygen exposure.

The results led to formal approval of both greases for use in oxygen-rich environments such as pumps, valves, and compressors. BAM’s testing also confirmed that:

  • MOLYKOTE® HP-300 Grease remains safe and stable when exposed to oxygen at up to 50 bar and 60 °C or 10 bar and 300 °C.
  • MOLYKOTE® G-8101 Grease remains safe and stable when exposed to oxygen at up to 50 bar and 60 °C or 25 bar and 300 °C.

When searching for ptfe-approved lubricants for oxygen service, this kind of quantified test data is what differentiates generic products from greases with proven performance.

PFPE and PTFE: the technical backbone behind ptfe-approved searches

Both MOLYKOTE® HP-300 Grease and MOLYKOTE® G-8101 Grease are fully fluorinated PFPE greases with carefully designed formulations:

  • They use perfluoropolyether (PFPE) base oil, chosen for its chemical stability, low volatility and ability to operate across wide temperature ranges.
  • Their formulations are thickened with polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), creating a lubricating structure that provides low friction and reliable film strength even under demanding conditions.

This PFPE + PTFE combination delivers several benefits highlighted in the technical data:

  • Compatibility with most plastics.
  • Excellent stability at elevated temperatures.
  • Very good resistance to chemicals and solvents.
  • Minimal deterioration due to oxidation, supporting long-term lubrication.
  • Low vapor pressure and very low evaporation loss compared with typical greases.

MOLYKOTE® HP-300 Grease: fully fluorinated, PTFE-thickened, BAM approved

We have developed MOLYKOTE® HP-300 Grease as a fully fluorinated PFPE grease that delivers strong performance under extreme operating conditions. Key technical points include:

  • NLGI Grade 2, based on linear PFPE with a base oil viscosity of 160 cSt at 40 °C.
  • PTFE thickener and PTFE as solid lubricants.
  • Service temperature range from -65 °C to 250 °C.

From the application perspective, HP-300 is positioned for use under harsh conditions: low or high temperatures, corrosive or solvent atmospheres, liquefied gases, high vacuum, and equipment where low volatility of the lubricant is essential, such as cleanroom and semiconductor manufacturing lines.

Combined with BAM approval for oxygen-rich environments and performance proven at up to 50 bar/60 °C and 10 bar/300 °C in oxygen, this makes HP-300 an excellent candidate whenever your specification or internal standards lead you to look for a ptfe-approved grease that can also deliver very low volatility and long-term stability in aggressive conditions.

MOLYKOTE® G-8101 Grease: extreme high-temperature PFPE grease with low evaporation

This solution was created as an extreme high-temperature PFPE grease with significantly lower evaporation than typical PFPE greases. Technically, G-8101 offers:

  • PFPE base oil with a PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) thickener.
  • Fully fluorinated composition designed for very high temperature service.
  • Service temperature range from -20 °C up to 280 °C.

The product data highlights its ability to perform under harsh conditions such as high temperatures, corrosive and solvent environments, liquefied gases, and high vacuum, as well as in cleanroom and semiconductor equipment where vaporisation of the lubricant must be kept to a minimum.

Why these greases match what engineers expect from ptfe-approved lubrication

When engineers or procurement teams search for ptfe-approved greases, they are usually looking for three things:

  1. Verified oxygen compatibility: BAM approval and clearly stated oxygen test conditions provide a documented basis for using these greases in oxygen-rich applications such as pumps, valves, compressors and related equipment.
  2. Fluorinated chemistry with PTFE structure: both HP-300 and G-8101 are fully fluorinated PFPE greases with PTFE thickeners, combining the chemical stability of PFPE with the low-friction, solid-lubricant behaviour of PTFE.
  3. Long-term, low-maintenance lubrication: the technical data for both products emphasises excellent stability at high temperatures, superior resistance to chemicals and solvents, minimal oxidation, low vapor pressure and very low evaporation loss, all of which support long relubrication intervals and reliable performance over time.

Choosing between HP-300 and G-8101 for ptfe-approved applications

  • MOLYKOTE® HP-300 Grease is particularly well suited where very low temperatures, low volatility and wide operating ranges are critical, alongside oxygen compatibility.
  • MOLYKOTE® G-8101 Grease is designed for extreme high-temperature conditions, with evaporation levels significantly lower than typical PFPE greases and strong performance in high-temperature bearings and plastic components.

Both solutions combine PFPE technology, PTFE structure and BAM testing, making them strong candidates whenever your specification calls for a ptfe-approved grease that can operate safely in oxygen-rich environments and under severe thermal and chemical stress.

Final thoughts

At Molykote®, we see the BAM approval of HP-300 and G-8101 as a clear confirmation of the work that goes into formulating fully fluorinated PFPE greases with PTFE thickeners for oxygen service. The combination of documented oxygen test data, fluorinated chemistry and long-term lubrication performance gives engineers confidence when they narrow their search down to ptfe approved solutions.

If your project requires a grease that is both BAM-approved for oxygen-rich conditions and built on PFPE/PTFE technology, MOLYKOTE® HP-300 Grease and MOLYKOTE® G-8101 Grease provide proven options that align with what ptfe-approved is expected to mean in real, high-demand applications.
